About

International Conference on Anthropocene, Global Environmental Change and Powerful Geography

The Geography Education Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret will hold “The 3rd International Conference on Anthropocene, Global Environmental Change and Powerful Geography (ICoAGPG)” as a hybrid conference on August 6th-7th , 2026, at the Aula of Building F, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Surakarta, Indonesia. The conference aims to disseminate research findings and innovative ideas in addressing environmental degradation and climate change, while also contributing to policy discussions and sustainable environmental management strategies.

The 3rd ICoAGPG 2026 adopts the theme “Geo-Ecological System in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Challenges for Sustainability, Human Responsibility and Disaster Preparedness.” This theme highlights the critical role of geospatial technologies and artificial intelligence in advancing the understanding of geo-ecological systems, strengthening sustainability initiatives, and enhancing disaster resilience in the Anthropocene era.

The conference will feature distinguished speakers with expertise in global environmental change, geography, and geospatial technologies, including Prof. Stella Christie, A.B., Ph.D. (Vice Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology – in confirmation), Associate Prof. Dr. Brent Doberstein (University of Waterloo, Canada), Associate Prof. Sulfikar Amir, Ph.D. (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), Dr. Annisa Triyanti (Utrecht University, Netherlands), Prof. Dr. Drs. Eko Haryono, M.Si. (Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia), and Prof. Dr. Chatarina Muryani, M.Si. (Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia).

We welcome contributions from academics, researchers, practitioners, teachers, and students on a wide range of topics, including land degradation and land conservation, biodiversity and ecosystem services, resilient cities, and the application of artificial intelligence for geo-systems. The conference also covers hydro-meteorological, biological, and geophysical disasters, disaster mitigation and adaptation, soil science, water resource management, and ocean and coastal management. Additional topics include climate change and forest-based adaptation, air pollution, the greenhouse effect and Urban Heat Island (UHI), as well as earth monitoring using geospatial technologies. Furthermore, contributions related to green infrastructure and sustainability, sustainable land use and urban planning, and regional planning are highly encouraged.

Reviewe and Publication

Peer-Review and Publication Opportunity

All submitted papers will be processed through a formatting review by the editor and a substantial review by reviewer. The reviewing process is conducted by a single-blind review process. The reviewers are chosen by an editor based on their expertise. The decision regarding article publication is based on the review result.

Authors must submit their papers through the system. Please note that we don’t accept submissions by email.

The conference will facilitate post-conference publication in proceedings indexed by Scopus.

All submitted papers will undergo a two-stage evaluation process: an initial formatting review by the editor, followed by a substantive review conducted by expert reviewers. The review process adopts a single-blind review system. Reviewers are selected by the editor based on their expertise in the relevant field.

The final decision regarding the publication of an article is determined based on the reviewers’ recommendations.

Authors are required to submit their manuscripts through the official submission system. Please note that submissions sent via email will not be accepted.

As an outcome of the conference, all submitted papers will undergo a rigorous peer-review process conducted by the scientific committee to ensure their eligibility for publication in reputable international conference proceedings.

Before all of you submit the manuscript, please follow the guidelines when preparing your paper:

  • The paper includes the author’s name and affiliation (full address including country).
  • Each author or co-author may submit no more than two papers if they wish to proceed with publication
  • There are no page numbers, or headers and footers, within the paper.
  • The File is free of formatting errors (e.g. corrupt equations, missing or low-resolution figures).
  • All pages are portrait (landscape pages should be rotated).
  • Reference lists are checked for accuracy. References can only be linked via Crossref if they are correct and complete.
  • It is highly recommended to use Mendeley to compose the Reference.
  • Figures are placed within the text, not collected at the end of the document.
  • The allowed similarity based on Turnitin/ithenticate is 20%
  • The submitted full paper has to be written in well-English language. Please note that poor English writing and missed-formatting may lead to rejection in final screening by Editors.
  • All published papers are mandatory to be presented at the Conference.
